Dental Implants in Aurora, IL
If you’ve lost a tooth, especially one that’s not visible to others, you may be thinking that you can slide by without replacing it. Sure, it will feel weird for a while, but you’ll get used it — or so you tell yourself.
However, not replacing missing teeth can have serious physical and mental consequences. The replacement process is not as difficult as you might think and will pay off in the long run.
The most common treatment is a dental implant. Implants consist of a titanium post covered by a crown or denture.
1st Family Dental of Fox Valley offers a variety of implant options to restore your smile, and your confidence, in no time.
Implant in a Day
The implant process traditionally takes about three weeks from start to finish. The implant is inserted and then a crown is made to protect the post.
1st Family Dental offers an “Implant in a Day” service that’s similar to the traditional procedure but includes the placement of a temporary crown over the implant so you can leave the office feeling like your tooth is back to normal.
Once your permanent crown is finished being made at the lab, we’ll schedule a follow up appointment to swap out the temporary crown for the permanent one. Your mouth should already be used to the feeling of a crown, making for a smooth transition.
Sometimes as the mouth settles down, the bite will shift and require further shaping of the crown. Once the permanent crown is in place, our doors are always open if you need to come back in for an adjustment.
For patients who are missing most or all of their teeth, our team may recommend dentures instead of crowns or bridges as a replacement solution. Implant overdentures is the latest in dental technology to improve chewing, talking, and other functions for denture wearers.
Overdentures are held in place in your mouth by implants that are placed in your upper and lower jaw, rather than by traditional adhesives. The result is a set of dentures that stay more firmly in place while they are in your mouth. Some overdentures are removable, while some can only be adjusted by a dentist.
Implant overdentures also help retain the shape and structure of your jaw bone. The loss of jaw integrity is a common problem among regular denture wearers. With implant overdentures, the implant posts will integrate with your jaw bone and mimic the roots of natural teeth, reducing bone loss in your jaw.
Our team at 1st Family Dental will work with you to determine whether you are a candidate for implant overdentures.
All On 6 Implants
The All On 6 approach combines implants and overdentures in a surgical procedure that’s one of the quickest ways to restore your smile after losing teeth.
The dentist will install six dental implants in the strongest parts of your mouth and then immediately install the overdentures. You’ll walk out with a new set of teeth that you can begin using immediately.
For comparison, using traditional implants to replace an entire set of teeth typically requires about 12 implants, bone grafting for the jaw, and about 6-9 months for the mouth to heal before overdentures can be installed. With All On 6, the implants are placed and temporary dentures are installed in one visit, and permanent dentures are ready within a few months.
You are good candidate for the All On 6 procedure if you are about to lose or have already lost most or all of your teeth, or if you’ve had problems with traditional dentures. Contact 1st Family Dental to schedule a free consultation to determine if you can benefit from this procedure.
